The weather = Perfect, The competition = Ready, The stage = Set
The 2nd annual Catch & Kayak in partnership with Bathurst Recreation was poised to be the largest event in the series this summer, with $2500 in cash prizes, and a Wilderness Kayak to give away, 45 kayak anglers took aim for the shotgun start on the shores of Youghall Beach.
With Tim Horton’s in the morning and BBQ at lunch the yakkers were fuelled for a day of trying to follow the schooling baitfish in hopes of landing the big stripers and possibly flounders? Well that was exactly the case for Rene Pelletier, who netted a 23 inch Striped Bass, and also the largest of 3 Flounders caught on the day at 15” to claim his first NBPFS victory this year, moving him into 3rd in the series standings! Following him, with an impressive 29” target species striped bass was Stephane Noel from the Bass Attack crew, he also cashed in with a 2nd place cheque for $750.00! Wilf Edmond was not far behind with a 28.23” bass, and claiming 3rd place cheque for $375.00. Chris Arnold from NS a respectable 4th and fellow Bass Attacker, David Godin rounding out the top 5.
There were plenty of fish to be caught on the day, it was just a matter of finding the right colour, and fighting the current to land them. It certainly was a great day for Kayak Fishing and a pleasure to have so many great partners to help organize this event. We are already looking forward to hosting this tournament again in the summer of 2019!
Join us Sunday, July 15th for the next tournament in Nackawic, NB – we are giving away a Landway Outdoor Sports frameless boat, as well as a sweet kayak fishing package from Strike Back Sport Fishing Adventures and we are on the hunt for Muskie as a target species!
