2018 NB Paddlers Fishing Series Champion is Crowned!
With one of the best turnouts of the season, the top contenders were poised to make BIG moves to jockey for a trophy position. John Cail and Rene Pelletier entered the day knowing one of their names was to be engraved on the prestigious NBPFS CHAMPIONSHIP CUP.
John entered the finals with a 55 point lead on Rene, so Rene dawned the task of catching some species he had yet to register like a chain pickerel, catfish, sturgeon and improve on some species he has already registered. Meanwhile Cail knew if he landed a sturgeon he would be in the clear, despite hooking into 3 sturgeon on the day, John could not register any for the season, and Rene didn’t waste time registering 7 species on the day, including a pickerel, but it was too little to late. John Cail finished with 6 species on the day, including a Golden Shiner which was his first of the season, and claimed top spot in the series with 16 different species and 233 total points. Rene claimed second overall with 195 points, closing the gap 38 points behind first and securing second place on the day as well. Congratulations to both anglers on a spectacular series and a competitive battle all the way until the end!
3rd place in the overall series was up for grabs with Chris Bingham, Bryan Cawthra and Chris Arnold having only 10 points separating them heading into the final tournament. Chris Arnold had one of his best tournaments finishing in 1st place on the day, landing 5 good size species. Arnold was able to secure the 3rd overall position with 122 overall points, 9 ahead of Bryan Cawthra who claimed 4th overall with 113 points, and Chris Bingham secured 5th overall with 110 points. Congratulations to Chris Bingham who was the lucky winner of our grand prize OutdoorsNB Old Town Predator 13 – so we expect he will move up in the standing as a result next summer. A HUGE thanks to OutdoorsNB and Natural Light Photography for your participation and support for the final tournament – check out some amazing shot from the finals – https://tinyurl.com/yaacuyzq
